11/12/25

Thank you for your continued support of HFR and our efforts to promote recycling and reduce waste in the Chilkat Valley.

 Making progress!

We are making progress toward the purchase of the property and building on Third Avenue for the new Recycling Center.  As part of that progress, in September we established a 1:1 matching fund of $50,000 to meet part of our total goal for our Capital Fund. We are about 60% of the way to the $50,000 goal, which we need to meet by December 31.

Thank you to all 37 of you who have donated a total of almost $32,000 since 9/13/25.

If you haven’t donated, or would like to increase your donation, please send a check to Haines Friends of Recycling, PO Box 822, Haines AK 99827 or send a donation to our PayPal account: www.hainesrecycle.org/membership.

Please make a notation that your gift is for our Capital Fund.  And remember, we are a 501(c)(3), so all donations are fully tax exempt to the amount allowed under IRS rules.

In other news:

Grants:

We received a grant for $3,060 from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation for operating expenses. Thank you CVCF!

We also received a Strengthening Organizations grant from the Alaska Community Foundation for $2,500 for our Capital Fund. Thank you ACF!

We were the first organization in Alaska to receive a grant from The Recycling Partnership.  We received $52,000 for a new electric forklift for the new Recycling Center since all of our collection will be inside.  The grant also provides $3,000 for signage and public education.

We are working on or have submitted other grant proposals.

Reducing your waste:

Do you want to host a zero waste holiday party?  We have a good stock of compostable tableware available.  We sell at cost (including shipping). Contact me if you are interested: 314-2209 or hainesrecycle@gmail.com

Looking for ways to reduce your waste this holiday season?  “Talking Trash” on KHNS this Friday, 11/14, from 8:45-9:00 AM will cover all sorts of ideas.  The script will be posted on our Facebook page (facebook.com/HainesFriendsOfRecycling) after the show. One of the ideas we will share is to make donations in honor of your gift recipient to your favorite non-profit (hint, hint).

Helping us prepare for our move:

Our goal is to move into the new Recycling Center in May of 2026.  You can help us by NOT bringing any scrap metal to us until after we get moved.  Appliances are fine to continue to bring.

Thank you again for your continued support of Haines Friends of Recycling.  We hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
