Workplace Energy Tips

Energy Saving Tips for your Workplace!
1.     Don’t give juice to unused electronics – put computers and printers on easily accessed power strips and turn them off overnight!
2.     Be smart about lighting: take advantage of natural light as much as possible with day-lighting controls, turn off lights when not in use, and use occupancy sensors indoors and photocells outdoors to turn off lights automatically!
3.     Use the RIGHT lights: CFLs in lieu of standard incandescent bulbs, T-8s or T-5s instead of the outdated T-12s, and LEDs are now available for many outdoor lights!
4.     Caffeinate efficiently by putting your coffee makers on a timer that will turn off the otherwise ALWAYS on internal hot water tanks!
5.     Adopt a workplace energy policy to encourage better energy awareness and $avings! Click for a sample policy....
6.     Modernize your HVAC system for better efficiency, greater employee comfort, and of course savings on the bottom line!
7.     Feeling overwhelmed: GET A PROFESSIONAL ENERGY AUDIT! This might cost you in the short term but it’ll save TONS in the long run (literally tons of CO2, not to mention a lot of money).

Home Energy Tips

Prepare for Winter and Save Energy in your Home!

1.     Use smart lighting options like buying Energy Star, CFLs and LEDs, and always turn them off when you don’t need them!
2.     Save hot water by using low flow shower heads, low-flow aerators, variable flow valves, and insulating your water heater!
3.     Be smart with your appliances, buying Energy Star, and maximizing efficiency with full loads and a full fridge, using cold water, air drying whenever possible, and setting temperatures correctly.
4.     Don’t give juice to unused electronics: unplug, unplug, unplug! Power strips and sleep mode are great, too!
5.     Adjust your thermostat or use a programmable one. Five degrees colder and an extra blanket at night instead will add up to significant savings on home heating.
6.     Find and seal cracks, gaps, and leaks. Find them by following the smoke of an incense stick and fix them using a simple caulking gun and weather stripping.
7.     Cover your single paned windows with plastic transparent window film and use shades to hold back the cold night air while allowing warm daylight in!
