ACTFEST is a wonderful get together of theatre-loving people, living, breathing and working in theatre. It is a tremendous learning experience with performances and workshops every day and evening, and time to talk drama and meet Alaska's theatre people.
Founded in 1973, ACTFEST presents a statewide community theatre festival in Haines, Alaska every two years. The festival attracts community theatres from throughout the State of Alaska to participate in adjudicated public competition. The final day of the festival, two state winners are adjudicated during the Winner's Performance for Region IX (AK, OR, WA, UT) status. The Region IX Winner competes nationally.

Competition and Judging
Each performance of the festival is adjudicated by a professional adjudicator. Public adjudications follow each performance; private adjudications can be arranged. A State winner (best production) and a Runner-Up are chosen Friday night and perform again on Saturday evening for the Regional Adjudicator. The winner of the Regional goes on to perform on the national level. Awards are given in several other categories, such as best actors, best supporting actors, best original script, etc.
The primary function of ACTFEST is to assist community theatres in improving their production and organizational abilities. ACTFEST encourages community theatres throughout the state of come together to share ideas and at the same time receive professional and technical instruction that otherwise they would not be able to afford. In addition to the benefits of adjudication, several workshops are offered on all phases of theatre. See the ACTFEST Schedule page for more information.
